Role Overview
This position is not a traditional software engineering role. Key responsibilities include maintaining and debugging adblock rules to ensure website compatibility with the Brave browser. You will develop blocking rules that enhance user experience and safety, such as eliminating cookie consent notices, and address challenges from websites that oppose our mission for a user-centric web.
Main Responsibilities
- Create and maintain adblock rules while deploying quick fixes for website issues.
- Reverse-engineer and debug web elements, particularly HTML, CSS, and JavaScript that may conflict with Brave's adblocking features.
- Contribute to open-source adblocking initiatives and ensure optimal ad and tracker blocking for Brave users.
- Monitor user feedback and implement solutions for reported issues.
- Collaborate with the privacy team to develop innovative solutions for web compatibility challenges.
Requirements
- Proficient in JavaScript with at least 3 years of experience.
- Familiarity with adblocking ecosystems and tools like DevTools.
- Experience with Git and collaboration on GitHub.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with open-source contributions and complex JavaScript reverse-engineering.
- Passion for privacy and a user-first web.
