About the role
Position Overview: M-KOPA is seeking a Legal, Regulatory, and Compliance Counsel to join our legal team as we expand digital and financial inclusion in West Africa. This pivotal role bridges legal, regulatory, and compliance functions, enabling our business to thrive within a complex regulatory landscape.
Main Responsibilities:
- Act as the primary legal and compliance advisor for our West Africa operations, focusing on regulatory changes in Ghana and Nigeria.
- Support licensing and regulatory engagement with authorities like the Bank of Ghana and the Central Bank of Nigeria.
- Oversee corporate filings and monitor emerging legislation impacting our services.
- Serve as Data Privacy Officer, ensuring compliance with privacy regulations and good data governance.
- Foster a compliance-oriented culture through training and policy development.
- Collaborate with various teams to identify compliance gaps and implement solutions.
- Manage legal contracts, governance issues, and external counsel relationships.
- Contribute to compliance with investor and ESG requirements.
Requirements:
- Qualified lawyer with over 5 years of post-call experience, particularly in legal and compliance roles.
- LLB degree and relevant legal qualifications.
- Expertise in regulatory compliance and risk management.
- Proficient in drafting and negotiating commercial contracts.
- Experience with financial services or fintech is a plus.
- Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
