We are expanding our technology team in South Africa, where we have already established a presence.

Position Summary

We are seeking a Head of Engineering for our Payment Gateway in South Africa. Monnify, our online payment acceptance service, connects merchants with card networks and banks, ensuring reliable transactions and streamlined user experiences. This role involves leading several engineering teams, overseeing the technical architecture, and enhancing both security and scalability as we expand into international markets.

Main Responsibilities

• Develop and oversee the technical strategy and architecture for the Monnify platform.
• Lead engineering managers and teams, setting quality benchmarks and building capabilities.
• Manage the end-to-end developer experience, including APIs and documentation.
• Guide platform evolution towards multi-currency and global scalability.
• Collaborate with product and operations teams to align technical and business objectives.
• Recruit, mentor, and nurture engineering talent.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in software engineering with 5+ in leadership roles.
• Proven experience in Java development and managing engineering leaders.
• Background in payments or fintech, with knowledge of payment flows.
• Expertise in API-first products and distributed systems.
