Staff AI Engineer

Position: Technical Lead, AI Architecture

Location: Full-time, in-person in San Francisco

Salary: $250,000–$325,000 USD annually, plus equity (0.15%–0.30%)

Role Overview: At Artisan, we are pioneering an innovative AI project that challenges existing capabilities in agentic AI. We seek a hands-on Technical Lead to design and construct the foundational AI architecture, influencing the technology's core elements. This role emphasizes individual contribution and technical leadership within a collaborative environment.

Main Responsibilities:

• Design and develop agent architecture, including execution loops, planning strategies, and tool interfaces.
• Implement multi-agent systems with delegation, coordination, and context sharing.
• Ensure resilience in complex workflows against interruptions and failures.
• Enhance retrieval, context construction, and memory methods for improved system performance.
• Conduct evaluations and experiments to derive actionable insights from system behavior.
• Make informed decisions regarding models and tools, ensuring they address the problems effectively.
• Provide technical leadership, setting standards and collaborating with engineering teams on production services.

Requirements:

• Proven experience in building and deploying substantial agentic systems.
• Expertise in LLM tool usage, planning, and multi-agent coordination.
• Strong software engineering skills in Python, TypeScript, or similar languages.
• Ability to design meaningful experiments and debug real system behaviors.
• Experience in areas like reinforcement learning and distributed systems is advantageous.
