Software Engineer - Open Source & Web Services
Canonical, a top provider of open-source software and operating systems, is seeking a talented software engineer to join our innovative team focused on the Ubuntu platform. Our software supports various enterprise applications, including public cloud, AI, data science, and IoT, serving leading companies worldwide.
Role Overview:
In this remote role, you will work closely with a global team to develop and manage backend services for the Snap Store and Charmhub.io marketplaces. Your responsibilities will involve enhancing our production architecture and expanding our software delivery capabilities.
Main Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with distributed teams to create clean web service APIs for CLI and web interfaces using Python (with optional Golang).
- Design and implement new features from specification to production.
- Review code and technical designs, engage in collaborative discussions to find effective solutions.
- Participate in global travel for team events 2-4 times a year.
Requirements:
- Proficient in developing public-facing APIs and web applications using Python.
- Strong knowledge of both relational and non-relational databases, capable of designing and optimizing data models.
- Familiarity with Ubuntu as a development and deployment environment.
- Degree in Computer Science, STEM, or related field with strong academic performance.
- Excellent soft skills; curious, flexible, and self-motivated.
