Software Product Design Engineer

Role Overview: Y Combinator is seeking a Software Product Design Engineer to create innovative product experiences. This position blends design and engineering, focusing on developing internal and public software tools, as well as AI-driven systems that streamline workflows. Join our small team where your contributions will have a significant impact, and you’ll frequently deliver products to actual users.

Main Responsibilities:

• Craft engaging and intuitive UI/UX designs, producing high-quality mockups that reflect strong product aesthetics.
• Transform design mockups into pixel-perfect, production-ready frontends using contemporary web technologies.
• Enhance existing interfaces by refining layouts, improving interactions, and ensuring design consistency.
• Collaborate with engineers, partners, and stakeholders, managing the design and implementation of features from start to finish.
• Rapidly prototype ideas and gather feedback to iterate effectively.
• Contribute to design systems and components that elevate frontend quality across YC.
• Engage with users to observe product interactions and make informed improvements.

Requirements:

• Proven expertise in UX and visual design, showcasing craftsmanship and discerning taste.
• Experience in frontend engineering, especially with React, TypeScript, and modern CSS.
• Ability to navigate design tools and frontend code seamlessly.
• Strong drive to execute quickly, take ownership, and respond to feedback.
• A keen attention to detail in all aspects of design.
• Comfortable with ambiguity, willing to define and pursue your own projects.
