About the role
Canonical, a leader in open source software and operating systems, is seeking engineering leaders for its Ubuntu Engineering team. Ubuntu is widely utilized in key enterprise sectors such as public cloud, AI, and IoT, serving numerous top-tier clients globally. With over 1200 employees across 75 countries, Canonical promotes a remote-first culture, meeting in person a few times a year to strategize and align goals. We are looking for dedicated leaders who prioritize software quality, performance, and resilience while mentoring high-performing engineering teams. Positions available include Manager and Senior Manager roles.
Main Responsibilities:
- Guide teams in enhancing the Linux experience for developers and users.
- Design, build, and deliver high-quality software using Rust, Go, and Python.
- Oversee planning, estimation, and project execution.
- Collaborate with product management on Ubuntu’s vision and strategy.
- Provide coaching and technical feedback to team members.
- Contribute to open source projects and improve documentation.
Requirements:
- Strong academic background in Computer Science or a related STEM field.
- Proven experience in leading technical teams.
- Expertise in Rust, Go, Python, Flutter, or C/C++.
- Excellent communication skills in English.
- Willingness to travel for company events twice a year.
