Job Overview
Canonical, the company behind Ubuntu Linux, is seeking to enhance its support for System On Chip (SoC) platforms to further boost adoption. With strong interest from silicon producers like NVIDIA, Xilinx, MediaTek, and Qualcomm, Canonical aims to expand its silicon enablement teams. The Canonical Kernel Team is looking for developers with a talent for hardware-level software engineering and a commitment to optimizing performance.
Main Responsibilities
- Collaborate with a globally distributed team and silicon vendor partners to integrate platform support into the Ubuntu Linux kernel.
- Diagnose and address kernel issues reported by partners and the community, as well as those identified through rigorous testing.
- Deliver silicon-optimized variants of the Ubuntu Linux kernel.
- Enhance tooling and automation for kernel delivery and testing.
- Submit, review, and apply kernel patches while engaging with upstream maintainers.
- Explore new methods to maximize performance on partner silicon.
Requirements
- Strong programming skills in C and familiarity with device drivers and hardware-level engineering.
- Experience in remote work environments.
- Effective communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency in git and understanding of operating system kernel fundamentals.
- Willingness to travel twice a year for company events.
