About the role
Canonical, a premier provider of open-source software and operating systems, is seeking a Usability Engineer for our Design Team. Our flagship platform, Ubuntu, is integral to various enterprise initiatives, including public cloud, AI, and IoT, serving leading organizations worldwide. With a strong remote work culture, our team consists of over 1200 professionals across 75 countries, collaborating in person a few times a year in diverse locations to align strategies.
The Usability Engineer will play a crucial role in the newly formed User Science team, focusing on integrating user needs into our development processes and quality standards. Key responsibilities include:
- Collecting and analyzing user data to derive actionable insights through various methodologies, including A/B testing and usability studies.
- Creating lightweight prototypes and visual dashboards to facilitate research dissemination.
- Tailoring research presentations for diverse audiences within a technical environment.
- Collaborating with engineering and product teams to embed user research into decision-making processes.
- Enhancing research operations infrastructure to improve accessibility and scalability.
- Contributing to the User Science discipline through training and resource development.
Requirements:
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Design, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
- Proven expertise in qualitative and quantitative user research methodologies.
- A hands-on approach with technical prototyping and a passion for innovative solutions.
- Strong communication skills and a compelling portfolio demonstrating user research and design work.
