Senior Backend Engineer

About the Role
Thndr is at the forefront of the Egyptian Exchange, processing around 40% of its transactions. Our Money Movements team is crucial for ensuring the seamless flow of funds, managing over 1 billion EGP daily across countless transactions. We ensure that every trade is accurately funded and every user’s money can be withdrawn when needed. With connections to banks, payment gateways, and asset managers, we maintain a robust back office in Egypt and the UAE, supported by our in-house ledger using TigerBeetle. As we prepare to expand into Saudi Arabia, accuracy and uptime are paramount, as any errors affect real people's finances.

Main Responsibilities

• Develop and manage services for deposits, withdrawals, and reconciliations in Egypt and the UAE.
• Ensure the accuracy and reliability of financial systems from design to execution.
• Integrate with financial institutions while addressing operational challenges.
• Enhance quality and operational standards, including observability and robust testing.
• Collaborate with finance and operations teams for expansion into new markets.

Requirements

• Proven experience in designing and maintaining reliable backend systems.
• Strong knowledge of distributed systems and their operational demands.
• Ability to manage systems throughout their lifecycle, under various conditions.
• Familiarity with technologies such as Python, C#, .NET Core, and more.
• Commitment to high standards of accuracy and reliability.
• Excellent communication skills for collaboration with engineering and finance teams.
• Strong debugging capabilities for complex transaction discrepancies.
